Mage

  • Free food, good for your priests mana (warrior will not really need food with a priest)

  • Free portals, amazing to cut down downtime

  • Great CC in forms of polymorph, or just freeze/chill effects

  • Solid DPS
  • Warlock

  • Soulstone, meaning that it will save you a good deal of time running back to your corpses in case of a wipe

  • Adequte CC in form of banish.

  • Good utility with pets,

  • Actually quite nice DPS (still a tad lower than mage)

  • The selling point for me would be the ability to summon anyone to anywhere since you will be 3-manning all the time. You should be able to find 2 DPS to ANY 5man in record time since you also provide summons. Also helps if someone quits mid-dungeon since you can summon a new member quite fast (you still need to get out of the dungeon to summon if I recall correctly tho).

  • Free mount at 40, so you can save your money a bit or even help the warr/priest buy theirs.
  • Shaman

  • WF totem is just nuts.

  • Great priest support with mana totems, good for elite open areas, or just in general.

  • Great if you are on a PvP server; can purge allience buffs

  • Go enhance and you can still do meaningful damage when leveling, plus throw in some heals if things go south.

  • Arguably the easiest class to level to 10.

  • Also has anti-wipe in form of self-res.

  • Point to consider: Ghost wolf will mean leaving your warrior/priest behind when running from A to B, pre level 40.
  • Rogue

  • Good dps

  • Good CC (sap)

  • Can open locks, so you don't need to do quests for dungeon doors (you still need to level lockpicking solo on your own time though)

  • Good for baiting out a 2v2 fight on PvP servers since you can stealth and open up on a duo leveling party.

If you do however insist on going Hunter than I'd advise you play with a tanky pet so your group can fight 2-3 monsters at a time much easier.

I'd consider Troll and take skinning.

If it's hunter it will definitely be troll with skinning - I've only ever levelled hunter solo; in a group situation would it be better to go marksman and just use pet as a meatshield?

A well used Raid spec is Trueshot Aura in Marksman, Sure Footed (3% Hit) and Deterrence in Survival and left over points in Aspect of the Hawk.

I think the only issue you would find is that you might not feel any noticeable power gains from talents until you get Aimed Shot at lvl 20.

If you feel you're going to end up playing solo on days when your friends are not online then you might find Marksman less optimal.

You might get some millage of improved Aspect of the Pack with your three man comp, so that could make BM slightly more viable.

If you go Troll, with skinning and plan to go Marksman then I would pick up your 3% extra dmg to monsters on your way down the Survival Tree towards 'Surefooted'

Disclaimer. I don't play hunter. I just have friends who do.
