Can I just ask what is your plan when Classic wow goes live? Do you start and push forward immediately or do you wait it out until the first wave is ahead and you can level in most effective way?
I ask because there will be definitely a race for the first place, but there will be race for the best time aswell. What is your aim? Do you want to be among the first to 60 or do you want to have the best time possible?
Or maybe I am wrong and you can be effective even while leveling with/slightly ahead of the crowd? What about time constraint?
I am really interested in it but I would say I am more of a guy who would wait a little bit and push on when the first main crowd is ahead.

All Speed runners on new servers recognize that realm first is more important than shortest time /played.
Furthermore, non-speed runners should want to get to 60 as quickly as possible in relation to real life time, because it's easier to make gold if you are an early 60 on a server. Gold farming spots aren't contested, high level zone gathering nodes are easy, etc.
The theoretical “best” /played would require you to fill rested the whole way through which makes it pointless. I’m going to push hard for as long as life will let me (most likely 2 days) and then play when I can trying to level as quickly as possible from there.

I think I will have two days aswell. Will you go hard from day 1 even that you can lose that day due to bad server stability and long queues? I think I might wait day or two.

Yea, no way I’m missing launch, even if Durotar will be a complete mess. I’ve considered practicing Tauren but I doubt I’ll actually go with that for classic.
I really wish I found this thread 2-3 months ago! I was running like 4 or 5 1-10s a week and 1-20s on weekends lol. I'm thinking I'm gonna go horde though, so a new challenge awaits!

It's fairly easy to get ahead of the pack. A large percentage of people will run to join friends in other zones. Quite a few will branch off and slowly level tradeskills. And even more will only play for 4 or 5 hours their first session. I'm by no means a fast leveler but everytime I've launched fresh on a private server by the time I was 15 or 16 I was already in the 2nd wave (the ones right behind the super speedlevelers). The longer you can stay awake and grind for that first session the further ahead you'll be.
Another 26 seconds shaved off PB..
Still room for improvement and 1 mistake costed me about a minute.
Working on 10-20 more now!
@Warcrazy What server were your runs done on so I can add you to the leaderboards?
Everything else updated.
Oh sorry I'm on the repack. Nice improvements Jpy!
Just now chiming into this and tough to read through 17 pages. But are their specific routes or guides you are taking? Or, is all of this done through "custom" routing and trial/error.
teebling You have some great guides, would this be worthy of having its own page and linking the fastest video for each Faction/Class/Race? Would be a great community collaboration! I can start going through the videos and documenting the fastest ones for future use.

This is Jpy’s baby - you’ll want to ask him about sorting by videos etc  You’ll find the leaderboards and videos in the first post on the first page of this thread for reference.
We recently wrote an article summarising some of the findings here but as you can see strategies, routes and tactics vary greatly from run to run depending on the player and starting zone.
Sams feel free to throw something together. I’m so short on time at the moment and moving to new house soon.
1-10 mage on Repack --- 1hour 22min 5seconds
Hey man nice run! Do you and Xrewz run the same route? And do you reckon sub 1hr20m is possible with that route?

No i think 1hr 20 is the best you can do unless you cheese the last trogg quest and had in the 6/6 one only, and yes i copied xrewz route and decided to not do the tools quest at the start area.
