How will you approach Leveling the first days of Launch?

Hey all,

I was wondering how you will approach launch-day leveling? It is expected that servers will be really crowded and people will fight for mobs to tag.

For me I think I will only play 1-2h on Launch day and grind a few mobs to get to maybe lvl 3. Real questing will start on day 2 for me... I hope most of the player are past starting zones by then.

Me & my friend will login and check the situation, if it's to crowded we will just jump around and see whenever we will find a mob for quests to kill. If its unbarable we will just logout and play some pubg xD

As Im from EU I will not play since midninght but rather have good sleep and wake up around 6 to play whole day. I tend to not make a plan for launch day as it could be full of disconnects and waiting in ques. Would like to get at least to level 10 and if it'll go smoothly, 20 would be great. After that just sweet sailing.

I have scheduled a long awaited week off to play Classic and I'm going to play as much as I can in that time to make the most of my holiday.

I'm extremely disappointed about the release time in the UK being my bed time but it's a U.S game which makes sense I guess.
That now means though that I'll be having a nap just after I've had my dinner on Monday so I can spend 11PM onwards getting as far ahead as I can from anyone waking up the following morning in Europe.

I'm not the only who would be doing this so It probably won't make much of a difference what time I begin. There will be traffic anywhere you go.

1-5 go hard trying to get tags as a duo. Spread as quick as possible at 5 and try to get to the next set of quests. Push for 12 with the path of least resistance by being adaptable. Will probably try for a quick layer hop at the end of the first hour to see if the RNG gods favour us. At 12 meet up with the rest of the boys and begin our 5 man push.

People who have optimized their 1-20 times in a sterile environment by following a completely rigid quest plan that doesn’t account for launch variables will be shocked at how poorly they have prepared. We have 3 separate quest routes and have our grind spots mapped out if needed. We will be dialling things in during the stress test just to do some final checks. Our 1-60 will be a combination of dungeon grinding and questing. We estimate a realistic played of 4-5.5 days but I wouldn’t be surprised if we got 6 days depending if we start farming pre BiS and doing attunements pre 60. Others doing the same route are making estimates as low as 3 days played... I’m not sure if that is realistic but we will be pushing hard. I prefer to keep a conservative estimate so that we don’t lose motivation. This push will be completed in 7-8 days real time.

Agree. Having a plan B is a must imo, as all the leveling guides are created in an optimal environment. A lot of people will get frustrated for missing Hogger for the 5th time in a row. It's good to have a grind spot to fall back to.

Gonna do a 5-Member-Multboxing setup, 4warr 1shaman. I have worked out and tested a leveling route 1-12. It contains basically a quest route with quests I can manage as a 5-member-group. In other words I skip most of the loot quests.

In my group setup it will take 6-7 hrs instead of 3-4 hrs as most solo player need to reach lvl 12.

In worst case it could obv. need more time.

For named mobs i am not afraid, because I can tag mobs really fast with my shaman (earthshock) and macro usage.
But for the regular kill quests with the long respawn times and wide spreaded mobs in a certain area. I am almost limited like a solo player and every clever solo player would join or create a group at this point. I don't have that option, so a lot of struggle potential:D

Contrary to most people on this forum, I probably won't be spending too much of my time immediately after launch playing the game. I work weekends a lot and my days off are usually monday and tuesday, so chances are I won't actually be free from work until almost a week after launch day. I toyed with the idea of taking some time off from work but ultimately decided it probably wouldn't be worth it because the launch will be too wild and unpredictable. I don't necessarily mind questing in a crowded zone and I am perfectly happy buddying up with others to do quests, but there are limits to my patience.

I respect and admire the people here that are going to be powering through the game and hitting 60 within the first full week of release. I envy their commitment and their drive, but I just don't have it in me. I would burn myself out on the game hard if I forced myself to do the same. So instead I will be taking it slow, leveling some professions while I'm questing, going out of my way to tame rare or unique pets, and just generally relaxing and enjoying my experience on the road to 60.

I am free the week of launch. I think the launch is around midnight for me in the Netherlands so I will be playing for about 2/3 hours before hitting the bed.

I am making a Night Elf Hunter. At the moment I am thinking about doing fishing first for the first hour or so. SO that the launch madness can cool down a bit. But that is probably wishful thinking, I think the first few hours will be crazy.

I might level in the Night Elf area or make the trek to Elwyn Forest.

Most of all I will be watching all the players leveling and bask in the launch hour craziness and screenshot and probably also record it all.

I'll return from work at around 6-7pm CEST and will login to see how crowded it is. If it looks like in the picture, I will simply wait it out, even if it takes several days. I want to enjoy it instead of fighting 30 other people to tag a mob.

Since it will launch at midnight, I will stay up and play since I have a week old at home, I don't get much sleep anyways. I think after around 3-4hrs most people who stayed up to play at launch will have gone to bed and it will cool off.

If I cant get any mobs I will just go get as much flight paths as possible. I'm not really in a rush for anything as long as I'm in wow I'm happy.

This reminds me of a strat me and my friend used to do. We would go to a bit higher level areas where we saw some chests. He would aggro all the mobs and run away while I looted the chest. We died a lot but It was all good loot!

I will start at midnight when it releases and hope that I get in ahead of the pack. If I can manage to start questing with the first people that get in, I have a big chance to remain ahead of the pack (Mulgore - so hopefully not extremely packed compared to Durotar). But this is all in an ideal setting so if I can't manage to do that, I'll have to grind my way to the next quest HUB and hopefully leveled past all the quest players this way.

Starts at 6pm for me. Get home from work, get some dinner, beer, and logging in hoping to see a giant mess. I think I may be the only person who doesnt expect to get very far on launch day. I WANT it to be a crap show. I want there to be a thousand people in the starter area. I WANT there to be no mobs to kill. Im looking forward to an entire night of lvl 1 duals, and lvl 1 hogger raids. For actual launch night, im not expecting much in the way of progression. IF there happens to be a lone wolf wandering untagged. ill kill it, but other than that. im hoping it will be crazy and am planning on spending all night making friends via lvl 1 crap show it will be.

I do however plan on staying up until I get so tired I cant stay awake. Im shooting for level 10, class quest done, both primary and all secondary profs learned and a little progression in each prof by end of day 2. I took the whole week and plan on getting a full 7 days of play time in with about 12-14 hours a day playtime on average, actual progress in questing done during the off hours, and during prime time, im just going to see what everyone is doing and join that. If there ends up being an ally lvl 1 raid on orgrimar, im totally in. To be honest, my goal isnt to speed rush to 60, my goal is to enjoy the 1-30 content, bum rush through 30-50 content (Im not as big of a fan) and then take my time 50+ getting most of my XP on the way to 60 doing faction rep stuff and dungeoning for gear.

I've practiced my speed leveling route with a friend. Our current time for 1-10 on beta was about 01:35:00, and above average 1-40 times on private servers.

My work is having remodeling done to the building, so they've given everyone a week off, I also requested the week after that off; totaling 14 days paid time off.

I will plan out my meals accordingly and make them a day before launch. I plan to workout for at least one hour each day, one hour of breaks for eating and misc, and to sleep a solid 7 hours -- giving me 15 hours of gaming. I have some sugar free Redbulls (two 4 packs) but I plan to only drink one a day; as I will be drinking mostly water.

I've leveled several max level character on fresh vanilla servers, I believe I've been apart of 4 fresh launches. With my history and practice I hope to hit 60 very early on so I can begin gearing up and punishing the people who gank my slow leveling friends.

That's my plan.

I might level in the Night Elf area or make the trek to Elwyn Forest.

Done both, I found a happy medium, 1-5.5 at NE starting area, then do the more fun and short travel quests in dolanaar until your left with the crap quests that make your run everywhere. around level 8 ish, make the trek to elwynn, setting hearth to darn. do elwynne forest quests, ignore class quest at level 10 until all elwynne quests are done. at lvl 12 ish hearth to darn, do class quest, level in darkshore for a bit then head to westfall... etc etc

I found that this set up make the late 20's and early 30's significantly easier do to being slightly ahead of the quests level wise. that extra little boost from the NE starting area stayed with me until early 30's. so recommend it.

after reading this I am thinking about doing this myself, going to bed early and start playing around 8 am when most of the population will be at work, but at the same time people will go to bed early so they can wake up for work. tough decision. will see how's the queues when the game launches. if everything goes smoothly, why not play the whole night as I will be having a vacation that week.

Slowly, for the most part. I should be getting home from work about an hour after the servers launch, and I'm not really interested in running out doing a disco-leveling route, so I think I'll just end up in the chaos genociding all the boars in the Valley of Trials (and the Vile Familiars quest, eugh).

Only thing I'm really planning on skipping is the Lazy Peons/Thazz'rill's Pick quests. Just not enough peons to go around, and no real critical rewards. I can come back and do them later when I wanna squeak out another 150 rep for Org and Darkspear Trolls.
